Workers in industries with combustion hazards like flash fires and explosions such as petroleum, electric, gas, chemicals, aluminum and the like manufacturing industries are required to wear FR clothing. . Even without history of burning accidents, these industries are required by OSHA to provide FR clothing where appropriate. An FR clothing program can equate to a single serious burn injury and save lives. Management is responsible for understanding and defining the hazards of the workplace and identifying the areas and tasks that require the use of FR clothing. They should mandate when, where and who should wear FR clothing during working hours. This should include contractors and short term employees who maybe required to work in the hazardous workplaces and tasks defined by the management.
