How do flammable chemicals affect FR clothing?

Flammable chemicals like those contained in insect repellants can have a counter-productive effect when applied on an FR garment. Such chemicals can increase the duration of surface flame on the FR garment when exposed to fire hazards, thus it is recommended that insect repellants containing flammable chemicals should be applied on the skin and not on the FR garment.
